Recurrent neural networks (RNN) are a class of neural networks that are helpful in modeling sequence data. Derived from feedforward networks, RNNs exhibit similar behavior to how human brains function. 

Recurrent neural networks recognize data's sequential characteristics and use patterns to predict the next likely scenario. RNNs are used in deep learning and in the development of models that simulate neuron activity in the human brain.

RNN is a type of supervised deep learning where the output from the previous step is fed as input to the current step. RNN deep learning algorithm is best suited for sequential data.
